The USOPC is pursuing financial support for Mary Lou Retton, who is still hospitalized.
According to her daughter, 1984 Olympic gymnastics gold champion Mary Lou Retton is "fighting for her life,"
And the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee has started the process of sending financial aid to her.
USOPC spokeswoman Kate Hartman confirmed this to USA TODAY Sports on Thursday morning.
"The USOPC supports the United States Olympians & Paralympians Relief Fund to offer aid to U.S.
Olympians and Paralympians facing significant hardships due to illness, death, or extenuating circumstances," Hartman stated.
"As soon as we became aware of Mary Lou's illness, 19we moved to accelerate the application procedure so that her family could receive aid.
We have contacted Mary Lou's family to offer our help and are currently sorting out the required details in real-time.
