LeBron James gets backlash after speaking out on 'tragic and unacceptable' war in Israel

The conflict in Israel has captured the attention of everyone, including possibly the most popular athlete on the planet.

LeBron James and Maverick Carter issued a joint statement through SpringHill firm, their entertainment development and production firm launched in 2020.

In a statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday night, they called "the devastation in Israel" "tragic and unacceptable."

"Hamas' murder and violence against innocent people is terrorism," James and Carter declared. "On behalf of the SpringHill Company family,

we express our heartfelt condolences to Israel and the Jewish community." We pray for peace in the region and renew

our commitment to combating hate in all of its forms. We must all act together to prevent this tragedy from spreading even more hatred, racism, and antisemitism.

However, a number of people who commented on James' article were critical of the sentiment.

"What about the kids on the Gaza strip that wear your jersey, play ball because of you and look up to you?" The post received one comment. "Aren't they not children being oppressed and murdered too?

"come on man don't be one eyed about the situation,go do your research brother," one of the others wrote.

A Los Angeles Lakers fan account, which James represents, even disagreed with the all-time leading scorer.
