Sony's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has scheduled a Netflix release date following a successful theatrical run during which it became the highest-grossing movie in Sony Pictures Animation history.
The movie opens in the United States on October 31 and has become one of the top earners of the year with a global gross of over $690M.
The deployment in other territories hasn't been announced in detail. Across the Spider-Verse is the first of two sequels to Sony's 2018 Best Animated Feature Oscar winner Spider-Man:
Into the Spider-Verse, starring Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld. It is released on Netflix as part of a five-year pay-one licensing agreement between the studio and the streaming service,
which has seen a number of Sony titles top the service's charts. Photo joins a fall lineupAcross the Spider-Verse, which was written by Phil Lord,
Christopher Miller, and David Callaham, begins with Miles Morales (Moore), Brooklyn's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, reuniting with Gwen Stacy (Steinfeld).
As he travels through the multiverse, he comes across a group of Spider-People tasked with preserving its very existence.
Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders when the heroes disagree on how to tackle a new threat. In order to save the people he cares about the most, Miles must rethink what it means to be a hero.
